Aaaaahhhhh…… L.A. ……..
Hollywood, sunshine, beaches, high end fashion, diversity of races, and unique individuality… Such a veritable plethora of gifts for the senses…
Not to mention the home of l.a. Eyeworks. A high end eyewear line that’s not only a gift for the eyes, but an enhancement for the face.
The first shop opened on September 9, 1979 - a storefront on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, California.
The amazing women behind the line? Barbara McReynolds and Gai Gherardi.
Both ladies grew up in Huntington Beach and have been friends since high school. And both trained as opticians - working in several legendary optical shops - and learning from the area’s most notable craftspeople. They wanted to challenge the norm within the eyewear industry. And boy, did they succeed. They now have two thriving stores in L.A., plus their frames are sold in many opticals across the nation. Their mission? “... to encourage people to stop looking and to start seeing… “.
Each of their limited edition frame designs begins with a hand drawn sketch - the first of many steps in a very meticulous process. Using only the finest of materials, as well as a combination of hand crafting, and technology, the result is beautifully crafted frames that are as unique as you are.
l.a. Eyeworks frames are known for their vivid colors and distinctive, ‘outside the box’ designs.
In May 2018, one of their men’s frames was featured in 20/20 Magazine’s ‘Frame of the Month’ article:
Celebrities such as: Patrick Dempsey, Paul Rubens, Ru Paul, Andy Warhol, Sharon Stone, and Pierce Brosnan have been photographed for the brand's signature portrait ad campaign, sporting the tagline, “A face is like a work of art. It deserves a great frame.”. (Photographer: Greg Gorman).
Should you find yourself drooling (it’s okay - it happens…) over one of these fantastic frames, and want a pair for your very own, no need to travel all the way to L.A….. We have them right here, in your own backyard, at Frameworks Eyewear!! Stop in and let us bring the awesomeness of L.A. to you.
